No, I do NOT think Morgellon's Disease is a real disease.

Based on its symptoms, they should have been able to isolate some kind of etiological agent by now: viral, bacterial, parasitic of otherwise.

Also, there is no known mode of transmission. Hard to deal with an "infectious disease" if you can't figure out its mode of transmission (which is generally easy to deduce with a simple epidemiological survey).

Hell, they won't even publicize any findings regarding these so called fibers that are found in the sores. Analyzing the fibers' content is very easily accomplished in a lab, and yet they won't do it? Could it be because their results confirmed that it's fabric lint? And why is it that reports of fibers only starting coming up two years after the condition was described (by a person who is NOT a medical professional, btw -- she's just an over-anxious suburban mom)?

The CDC is only giving a cursory glance to Morgellon's because of intense political pressure from zealots and hypochondriacs. Otherwise, there is no science in any of the findings thus far. I am just waiting for the CDC to confirm (and publish) that the Morgellons crowd are a bunch of wackjobs.

btw, did anyone else notice the "symptoms" mimic those of methamphetamine use?

That was pretty bizarre on Primetime last nite!!! Can't imagine how non-organic environmental fibers ingested by the body in some manner would do anything but pass through the digestive system, or be expelled in phlegm if inhaled...not pass through the body (either through tissue directly or via the bloodstream) and work their way out to the surface (or near the surface). Makes more sense (if that is the word) that they would be organic in nature and self propelled in some way...but who really knows??

I hope not. It sounds like bed bugs plus CFS. Actually it really does sound like a nerve disorder.

Morgellons Disease is a real disease definitely yet there are still so much things needed to be discovered about its nature which researchers try to uncover as for the meantime the cause of Morgellons Disease is currently a medical mystery.

I have studied it quite extensively and am convinced it is a psychiatric disorder, with possibly some insect initiation of the sites.

Look up the term "formication"; it is psych disorder, in psychotic states, where the patient feels as though insects are crawling on them.
