How do I get paid through the state to care for my mother?
Question:
Answers:
Call the state, as well as social services. A social worker can help u locate the forms. I know that my brother took care of his wife and was paid for. She had cancer. Also have u asked anyone where ur mom gets treatment? They should have the info if not the forms. Look in the front of the telephone book, there are government phone numbers there.
Other Answers:
Contact your local county office (usually ran through Health Services or Aging and Adult Programs) explain that you will be performing informal health supportive services (IHSS) for your mother as a caretaker.
They will tell you how to submit timesheets or apply for a stipend (varies from County to County).
does she have insurance policy on herself? and find out if there is anything in the policy that will help you and her out
I can't really help you, but you should also look into getting paid through her insurance. It also doesn't seem right that you have to be at your employer more than nine months to qualify. I'd look into that.
Go to your closest Social Security office. They'll have the forms and information you need in order to do it right. And they are the ones who would be providing payment for care, or paying supplemental security to you mother. They will also point the right paths to follow for legal matters which may or may not be required, like power of attorney, being appointed guardian, etc. Be ready for a lot of leg work, and you may need the help of a lawyer for some of it. Hope it works out for you both.
