If you're not a diabetic then stop the diet. Your body is used to certain levels of different types of vitamins and proteins in your syste. and that's why your getting the shakes. When you get them eat something high in protein like a peanut butter sandwich. It helps. For me anyways.
Check out (http://www.reducingstress.net ) there is a lot of great articles and expert advice on the subject there. Sure following a diabetic diet can be hard. If you are not able to, I would definitely try to suggest that you strongly watch and limit your sugar intact. Also, stress can actually raise your sugar levels, so though you are caring for two elderly people try to limit your stress as much as possible. Eating smaller portioned foods more often throughout the day may still give you the same amount of food (but not put too much sugar for your body to process at the same time). If you are taking any medications it is important to notify your doctor, because some medications will also raise sugar levels too. If your doctor has prescribed any medications to help regulate your sugar, you should take at the times indicated by your doctor. Hope this helps. Hang in there. Changes in sugar levels can cause mood swings. Once you get the sugar levels in check, things hopefully won't be so bad.
if you are getting sweaty, shaky and weak, it's probably because your BGs are low, but you have to test to be sure. You say your levels around 10 to14 -- if that's your A1c -- OMG, please start taking care of yourself! You will not be able to care for others if you are sick - or dead! Stress can certainly cause BGs to go up. I see that all the time with patients.
What to do? call around to find local relief agencies that might help provide respite help for you. call an elderly ombudsman office (?? in Canada, we have them in US) They may be able to offer advice or provide help. Is there a government agency that would provide some home health care? That would help you some. Call local churches, especially Catholic Social Services or just a parish church. This is something that Christians want to do, if possible. "Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers." I will ask our parish Prayer Circle to pray for you. Good luck, and God Bless you! I'm not sure what a level 10 is, but drinking alot of water helps lower your levels. It flushes the sugars out of your body. I don't know if you're a type 1 or type 2. If you're a type 1 and require insulin, you should go on the insulin pump. It really helped me mentally and physically. Try www.medtronicminimed.com for information.
