can you up your statins dose?

Question:

Answers:
Well, your doctor can increase it, yes, depending on how high a dose you are currently taking. For example, Lipitor (the most widely used statin) is available in dosages up to 80 mg.

But you don't want to take more statins than you have to. Once you get your cholesterol down to acceptable levels, don't go any higher on the statin dosage. It could be very dangerous. Statins are usually well tolerated, but there are occasional very serious side effects, and the chance of those side effects goes up with the dosage.

If you are not getting the results you need, talk to your doctor, because there are different ways to treat high cholesterol. Diet and exercise, of course, but you have heard that before. But you can try different statin medicines (there are a lot of them) and some work better for a given person than others. If Lipitor doesn't work, try Zocor, or Pravachol, or Lescol, or something else. Or you doctor can add Zetia, which is not a statin but which control the amount of cholestrol your body absorbs from food. (Statins work on the liver instead.) So there are lots of ways to go, not just an increased dosage, and only your doctor can advise you on what's right in your case.

Other Answers:
Absolutely not.
No! Not at all!! These statins are blood thinners abuse them and your blood pressure can drop dangerously low=Death! Only your doctor can tell you to up or lessen the dose, and as ALL WAYS do not use ANY alcohol!!
Yes ,But other brands may be better on a less dose
As a cardiologist, I'd recommend you talk it over with your doctor before doing so. (And by the way, Manus might be a little confused about the ability of statins to lower blood pressure and the need to avoid alcohol while on a statin. . .)
