what is graves' diease?
Question:
Answers:
Graves' disease is the most common form of hyperthyroidism. It occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks your thyroid gland and causes it to overproduce the hormone called thyroxine. This abnormal immune response can also affect the tissue behind your eyes as well as your skin, usually on your lower legs and feet

My daughter suffers from this. Ii is characterize by a pronounced over active thyroid. It is unknown why people have this, but the theory is that it is autoimmune. It is found in more than60% of patients. It is 3 times more common in women than men and occurs most frequently between the ages of 20-40 and often arises following and infection oar physical or emotional stress. Typical signs are nervousness, a fine tremor of hands, weight loss, fatigue, palpitations, heat intolerance and other symptoms. Thyroxine, secreted by the thyroid should be tested for levels in serum. Be warned that if the doctor says you should have it removed or deadened, you will gain weight. My thyroid was removed and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. Hope this is helpful Good luck
