is there a doctor out there that can please help me about statins?

Question:

Answers:
I am a physician assistant and I work in a large cardiology clinic, including manning our lipid clinic for patients with hard-to-treat hyperlipidemia and significant risk factors for coronary disease. I would be happy to answer your question(s) but you did not ask any. The general subject of statin medications is entirely too broad for me to even know what to say to you.

I'll check back tomorrow. Hopefully you can be more specific about what you want to know.

Other Answers:
Statins cause cancer..so don't use them unless you need them.

Statins have been proven to halt and to a small extent, reverse atherosclerosis. If you have significant blockage of your coronary arteries, statin drugs can help you.

A cheap, fast, non-invasive test called an ultrafast CT of the heart can tell you how much blockage you have. Get this test done sometime in your 30's (earlier if you have bad cholesterol or other symptoms) and every few years afterward. You can dramatically improve your outcome by using this test to help choose what treatment, if any, with statins is right for you.

A new class of drugs that are strong anti-oxidants, is coming out soon that can reverse heart disease and prevent restenosis after angioplasty. Likely, they will have a major impact on treatment. Keep to date on what your best treatment options are.
