What percentage of HIV tests are wrong after 10 weeks?

Question:
I tested negative after 10 weeks-July 25 unsafe sex-no lectures please had 'em already, tested on 5 Oct- for Hiv though I wanted to wait 13 weeks window. My GP said I wouldn't need another as it should show up by now. The Terence Higgins trust said it's guidlines are 12 weeks to be totally clear. Any ideas on how likely I am to remain negative? doesn't most seroconversion take place within 2-4 weeksand should show up by 10 weeks ish?

Answers:
I'm sorry that I'm unsure of the exact percentage. But I do know that the overwhelming likelihood is that it would have shown up in a positive test by now. Of course, if you want to be safe, that can be as simple as having another test in a couple of months.

Additionally, there are now tests you can do at home and send away to the lab. So you could do one of those at home in awhile, just to put your mind at ease.

You definitely don't need any lectures...especially not if you're smart enough an conscienctious enough to get yourself tested. But you should know that even though unsafe sex is very unwise, it's not likely that you'll contract HIV from ONE unsafe contact with a heterosexual partner. If neither of you use needles, your chances go down even more. In fact, you're more likely to end up with another STD, like chlamydia or gonnohrea.

Good luck!
Be on the safe side and test one more time after three months.

Please - I want you to live

By the way don't do that again okay....
just get tested again
