what is the relationship between uric acid and cardiovascular disease?
Question:
Answers:
Uric acid is an end product of protein metabolism. It is most often asso. w/ gout. But high levels of uric acid in the blood can sometimes lead to kidney problems. And if the kidney fails to control blood pressure, the heart may suffer. This is the only indirect way that uric acid levels may contribute to cardiovascular disease. But the current opinion is that there is no link between uric acid levels and cardiovascular disease.
