Malignant mole/Skin Cancer?

Question: I have had a mole on my left breast since birth however over time it has changed in colour becoming dark brown/red and has developed a white ring around it which is gradually getting larger..recently I have not been feeling well generally getting all sorts of symptoms..the dermatologist is adament that it is ok but I am getting a lot of pain from that breast and recently got a milky discharge from it.I think I should have it removed straight away and tested..what do others think?

Answers:
A mole that is changing enough for you to notice it generally should be biopsied to be sure it is benign. Although dermatologists are best at determining from appearances alone if a mole is dangerous, no one can be 100% sure. You are worried, and the peace of mind alone would be worth the cost and trouble of biopsy.

Get a second opinion and ask that it be removed because it worries you so much! Even if it isn't, doesn't mean it won't be later. Better to get rid of it now. Good luck to you!

I also think you should have it removed and tested. I also agree that you need a second opinion. Yes, the derm. doc knows more about them that lay people, but that does not mean they can't make mistakes; we are all human. The not feeling well could easily be an anxiety-type reaction. The discharge is worrisome. I assume you have had mammography. If not, that would be highly recommended regardless of your age. Good luck.

PS - my GP took off my moles - but they were NOT on the breast. He used liquid nitrogen. Burned for a short time but they healed very nicely.

did he do a biopsy of the mole? there are several ways to know if a melonoma is at risk of being cancerous or not - changes in size shape color and texture

if you feel that upset about it - get a second opinion or have it removed and then make sure they check the tissue they remove.

You certainly do need a second opinion. I'd recommend that you visit a Skin and Cancer Clinic in your area, for testing. If they find abnormalities, they'll refer you to another specialist, or direct you to contact your own.

You are wise to be concerned, as your mole has gone through physical changes. That's one of the things one needs to be aware of. Another cause for concern is the milky discharge.
