why do people smoke when they know that they can get all types of cancer from cigarettes and die?

Because cigarrettes are very addicting. I have no idea, but I met a lady who smoked while she was strapped to an oxygen tank for emphysema. I also know a woman who smoked minutes before going in to remove part of her lung from lung cancer. Clearly, that seems to imply it is a powerful addiction.
Who cares, Give some one you don't like a cigarette,,.Just worry about yourself not them..Just be glad you don't smoke.
Cigarettes are highly and powerfully addictive, and almost like Pringles, "Once you pop you just can't stop."
I used to, and quit. Now I find it to be a disgusting, vile habit.
Because they want too.
The real question is, should they or their families be able to sue the tobacco companies after they get cancer?
that's why it's called an addiction. When you are addicted to something you do not care about the consequences at that moment. you simply want to get enjoyment out of what you are doing for that moment. A lot of people smoke or start smoking for so many different reasons. Years ago women smoked because they thought that it made them look sophisticated. you have people who smoke because their parents smoked, because friends pressured them into it, they were just being curious, or they claim that it is a stress reliever. Hopefully, now with all the advertisement about how smoking and second hand smoking can and will kill, more people will quit. heroin.powerfully addictive.. it is too hard for some to quit..even if they are sick, dying etc. they are addicted plain and simple. I was for like 16 years.. so I know the feeling. I have not smoked for like 18 years. TG!!
It's a drug.and tobacco companies KNEW it.and got young and old HOOKED .on purpose for $$$$$$$$$$$
Why do people drink when they could have liver failure? Why do they tan when it can result in skin cancer? Why do we watch tv instead of jogging? Why do we eat burgers instead of celery?
Most people do not think about the long term effects of what choices they make now.

I wish I could answer that. I lost my Dad, he was on 54 to lung cancer. Both sides of Grandparents died of Lung cancer. My beautiful 11 year old son just asked me tonight if he saved $500.00 worth of his allowance, would I go have that Quit smoking shot they offer. These things should be more than enough for me to quit. Why isn't it? I hate this addiction!!
