There is type 1 and type 2 herpes and both CAN occur on either the genitals or other areas. Since the popularity of oral sex, the term genital herpes means a lot less, now.
They can be.

Mouth herpes are type 1 genital are type 2 and chicken pox are a type too, as well as shingles. They are very common, the least being, of course, genital. 75% of people have mouth cold sores.
yes same family..different a bit tho.. but you can still have the virus on your lips from other bacteria. but you can also transfer both types back to the other areas if there is skin to skin contact..make sure if your asking this for a personal reason.go see a Dr. there are many different meds nowadays to help.even for the mouth type.. you could possibly clear them up faster by using a simple antibiotic..

I don't know to much about herpes in the mouth. I would go to a doctor soon.find out if your partner has it and didn't tell you.
They are the same virus that infects different areas of the body, you can get genital herpes on your mouth and vice versa. Oh by the way..a fever blister is herpes. And since oral sex.there has been a great increase of gonorrhea and syphillis of the mouth and throat. Be careful! oral sex is NOT safe sex!
I do not know if they are exactly "the same thing" i.e. the same type, but I do know that YES you can get genital herpes if someone with oral herpes performs oral sex on you. It happened to someone I knew in college. I wish more people knew about it, because it could help prevent it from spreading so much if people knew this.
Two types. You can get either one in either area.
No. They both come from the same virus, just a different strain.
