How long do you have pain after haveing cancer?

Question:

Answers:
For me, my cancer was not painful, it was the treatment and some of the procedures that caused me discomfort. I can't speak for others, but this was my experience....

I was diagnosed with stage IIIA Hodgkin's lymphoma in early 2004. I underwent six cycles of ABVD and two additional cycles of ABV. (Those last two were without the Bleomycin, which can have harsh side effects. This is the one that has given me the most problems.) I did have a mediport. After the chemo, I had 40 cycles of radiation, not as bad as the chemo. (This is the short version of it all)

It's been over one year since my last treatment and I'm doing well. I get fatigued a little easier now, but hey I'm 41 years old.

Because of the advanced stage of my lymphoma at the time of my diagnoses, my Oncologist gave me a 60% chance of recurrence. He says that that the further out I get from my last treatment, the lesser the chance of recurrence. I'll be following up over the long term.

I hope I've answered your questions. I don't know if you're asking for yourself or for someone else but family support and a positive attitude will greatly help you through. I wish you the best.

Each person is different when it comes to how long pain lasts or if they even have pain. It also depends on what type of cancer it is, what stage the cancer is and how advanced the cancer is.
I would suggest talking to your doctor and I would also suggest that you maybe look into a cancer support group in your area. Your doctor can give you information to find them in your area. As the wife of a cancer survivor, that is the best advice that I can give. I wish you all the best.
Unfortunately, there is no good answer to your question. Everyone is different. Even if you have 10 people with exactly the same cancer, and all of them had the same stage of the disease, we still could not say which ones will have pain, how long the pain will last, or even how severe the pain will be.

The best thing to do is talk to your medical team. Pain management is important. Your body heals better when it is not having to fight pain as well as the disease. There are lots of different options to discuss with your medical team.
In general cancer is PAINLESS as our body does not recognize cancer cells as abnormal cells. They duplicate fast and consume a lot of energy and thus, release a lots of wastes.
Pain from cancer tends to indicate a terminal stage so the patient may be on heroine drips to appease the pain. Sometimes, the cancer spreads (metastasis) and damages other bodily structures and that may cause pain. Your question is difficult to answer as it also depends on the type of cancer too!
