why did you start smoking?
Question:
Answers:
I always liked the smell of cigarette smoke in the outdoors, from the time I was a child.
When my friends started smoking, I did, too.
I became severely addicted to nicotine and thankfully, had good results with hypnosis and quit, although I know that doesn't work for everyone.
Now that the weather is nice - I catch a whiff of smoke from time to time, and I wish I could smoke - but I don't crave it anymore. And I know how dangerous it would be for me to become addicted again.

kids usually start to look cool with their friends, then they are quickly addicted, Rick started smoking at 6 and last year had half a lung taken out.
I started smoking under a situation of STRESS. It was the release I desired at the time. I really, really wish I had NEVER lit up for the first time!
The sad thing was, I wanted to kill myself. I was majorly depressed and knew if I hurt myself in a way that was obvious, my mother wouldn't be able to take it. So I hurt myself that way. Then I got hooked and now I like smoking. I don't think its cool, I just find it relaxing and tasty.
At first because all my friends were doing it. I quit. I started again because it was my only excuse to get away from my crazy boss (run out for a smoke break). I quit. I started again as an excuse to get to know the guy next door. I married him; I quit. Now I wish he would quit.
I never started! When I was about 15 my Grandmother was diagnosed with cancer in her larynx. I watched her go through hell!!
I tried smoking in high school when a girl friend of mine smoked. I guess just to be cool with her. But my friend and I got caught in the bathroom smoking and I quit after smoking only three months.
I really think it was just a peer thing cause my folks didn't smoke and when I was little I thought it was uncool.
As an adult I have picked it up a couple times during times of extreme stress. About once every 10 - 15 years. But usually quit after about 3 - 6 months. This last time it just started making me sick to my stomach. So stopping wasn't hard at all. But for most people quiting is a big thing and it is highly addictive to 99.99% of those who smoke. I think I'm just unusual.
So in answer to your question. Stress, big, fat, extreme, stress. And there is definitely a social thing to it too. Like, if I'm with someone who's smoking I think I want to too. Then it just tastes nasty.
I didn't.
I am a non smoker.
to try why my frieds do it
they never tried to forced me, i was just wonder
i finished as soon as i started
ever since i was little i have loved the smell of cigarettes, so it really was only a matter of time before i tried them. once i did i just loved watching the smoke. and it was relaxing, plus i guess there was a little bit of that 'coolness' factoring into it, although some of my friends dislike me smoking i still feel slightly cool i guess, though I'm embarrassed to admit this.
curiosity and peer pressure!!!! Don't start ... it stinks, addictive and waste of money.
My husband started at 12 to feel grownup.
I started at 15 to fit in I guess. Wish I hadn't. So far it's been a pack a day 9 year habit.
