Anyone know why I would get a shooting pain in right calf which throbs and stops?

Question:
I am not really active and have not been doing anything out of the ordinary. For the last two days I've been getting this shooting pain on the front end of my calf muscle. It wakes me up and all of the sudden it just shoots pain for a few seconds and goes away. Sometimes it comes and goes for a couple of minutes at a time. It's the weirdest thing.Any suggestions as to what this can be. I know it's not a pulled muscle. I'm also a diabetic 1.

Answers:
If you were to present to the ER, as your nurse I would take your vital signs, obtain a BSL and then ask you to change into a hospital gown. I would examine your calves, whilst you stood together.does one look larger than the other? Have you measured your claves and compared this? When you walk, how far do you get before the pain begins? If you cannot get far before the pain begins then it IS important you go to the ER.
It may be what is termed, intermittent claudication related to a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), this is serious!
Another question would be: "If you extend your leg as you sit on a chair, and you flex your affected leg's foot, does the pain in your calf worsen?"

Other Answers:
Diabetes can cause problems with the lower extremities. You really need to call your doctor about this, it could be a sign that your medication or diet needs to be adjusted.

first go get a pedicure it will relive tension in your calf's second look and see how worn out your shoe's are maybe its time for an upgrade. 3rd while sitting down point your foot forward hold it for ten secs then back due this for 4 reps each day also start taking a vitamin daily. good luck Extend your leg out and stretch your toes up not straight out and do this several times. OR Stand facing a wall place palms flat on wall and extend the leg that hurt behind you foot flat on floor and stretch. I personally use the stairs, I stand on the edge of a stair & tip toe like exercises up and down with the ball of my foot that stretches the calf muscle and reduces the pain..

I'm not a doctor, but I play one on tv. This sounds like it could be serious, I hope you get it checked out, the sooner the better.
Get some information on Peripheral Artery Disease. My mom is a diabetic, this is just one of the many things she's gotta watch out for.
