If you touch a cold sore on your mouth then your genitals just how big is the risk of getting genital herpis?

Question:
My cold sore has scabed over and I touched it then went to the bathroom and touched my genitals without thinking. How much am I at risk of contracting genital herpies?

Answers:
30% of genital herpes cases are caused by herpes simplex virus 1 (cold sores). So it is possible that you can get it this way. But, it is usually spread this way by someone who has cold sores and then give oral sex to someone.

If you touch a cold sore and then touch your genital area, it's possible to get genital herpes that way, but HIGHLY unlikely (since it is usually spread that way by oral sex), especially if you only did it once.

Other Answers:
this is difficult to pinpoint. usually genital herpes is spread through direct contact, but there have been some cases in which the virus is spread through indirect contact. the chances of that are astronomical though. dont touch yourself when you have a cold sore.
oh no

they are 2 totally different viruses. well if u have sex with someone and they have GH and u didn't use any protection then u have a chance
It is possible, but genital herpes and oral herpes are caused by 2 different types of Herpes Simplex Viruses. They can cross-infect, but the oral one has a predilection for the mouth, and the genital one has a predilection for the genitals.
(Of course, you could have gotten genital herpes on your mouth from oral sex, and that would definitely take hold if you touched your genitals.)
