how does herpes affect babies when they are born?
Question:
Answers:
Okay I got this from Herpes.com
"In about 90% of cases, neonatal herpes is transmitted when an infant comes into contact with HSV- 1 or 2 in the birth canal during delivery. There is a high risk of transmission if the mother has an active outbreak, because the likelihood of viral shedding during an outbreak is high.
If a woman does have a lesion or prodromal symptoms at delivery, the safest practice is a cesarean delivery to prevent the baby from coming into contact with active virus.
Unfortunately, when infants do contract neonatal herpes, the results can be tragic. About half of infants who are treated with antiviral medication escape permanent damage. But others may suffer serious neurological damage, mental retardation or death. It's fear of these terrible consequences, rather than the level of risk, that makes neonatal herpes a concern."
I had no idea it was so bad for babies! I'm glad I looked that up! I have genital herpes and when I have a child some day I definitely don't want them getting it!

If the mother has active sores at birth, the baby can be born blind. I think, though, that they now have a cream or gel that they apply to the mother if this does occur at or near the birth time to lessen the chance of that happening.
herpes can make babies go blind or even cause other complications such as skin irritations etc.,the list goes on.
sores can also develop on their mucus membranes and cause them to be very irritable.
I have heard that blindness is one thing. They do a Cesarean section if the mother has symptoms before delivery. There is a cream for out breaks early on in the pregnancy. The doctor should be notified if the Mother has herpes. Even if there have been no symptoms for awhile.
the babies are born with it, just like AIDS. babies are born with AIDS/HIV
