What happens to your body when you quit drinking alcohol?

Question: My step-mom is an alcoholic. She quit cold turkey 4 days ago. She was drinking Vodka heavily every day. She hasnt had very many withdrawl symptoms other than being irritable. But- since she stopped, she feels like she has a bladder or kidney infection. Is this common? and is this just "part of it"?

could just be that she has a bladder infection and wasn't aware of it because of being intoxicated
