Medically, why can some blind people keep their eyes open and some can (or should) not?

some blind people are blind because of an accident that had nothing to do with eyes, and some have infections that involve keeping your eyes shut. some people just feel more comfortable that way. som'es eyes are strained and tired, and it's just easie that way.
