What is perception of risk of STD/HIV?

Question:

Answers:
Well, contrary to popular beliefe, the risk of contracting HIV if you have unprotected sex with an HIV positive individual isn't very large, about 1 percent. The risk is a lot larger through direct blood transfer, i.e between intravenous drug users. People who practice anal sex also have an increased risk because the mucous membrane in the rectum is thinner and more prone to rip then the vagina. Also there is a large "colonie" of a special type of cell called t-cells right underneath the rectum membrane, and these cells are the ones that HIV infects (CD4+ cells to be exact).
The risk of other STD's is larger. Chlamydia, Herpes and Genital Warts is a lot larger, and spread through direct contact. Wearing a condom protects you against HIV and Chlamydia, and will protect the areas it covers.
Good Luck!
