Is there anyone out there who has ALS?
Question:
Answers:
My uncle has ALS. 8 years ago he was an active, Godly man who often played golf and participate in his church when he started to feel weak in his arms. Now he needs a respirator and sits in their living room all day. He is paralyzed from the neck down. This may seem like a depressing situation, but amazingly, he found a device that connects to his laptop and has a reflector on his glasses to move the cursor by nodding his head. In this way, he still maintains two websites (one for his church and one for an ALS support group in his town). If I was to describe his attitude, I would not say frustrated, angry, or sad, but content instead.
I do not have the disease, so I cannot imagine what it is like, but I have watched my uncle as the disease gradually took each of his muscles away. The worst part of ALS is that your brain is kept intact, so you are completely aware. More people get ALS than MS, but hardly anyone knows what ALS is. To raise public awareness, I have given speeches at my college and organized teams for the Walk To D'Feet ALS. I would give you his email, but it takes quite a bit of effort at this point for him to type.
I'm surprised that you've had it for so long. Maybe it affects women slower. In any case, I feel for you and I hope that you have the Lord as a comforter.
