how can i help my friend? i think it's anorexia?
Question:
Everyday at school my friend *kara* doesn't eat. We ask her why not and she's says "I'm just not hungry during the day. I eat heaps when i get home after school and for dinner."
But. me and my friends don't know if she is telling the truth. this has been going on since the start of the year. and if you compare her to the start of the year, she has lost weight. She incessantly talks about her "fat" legs, which are really quite too skinny.
I think she is anorexic cause she thinks she's fat, and we question her on it but she says it's just the clothes she wears that make her look skinnier.
I'm really worried and i don't know what to do. She would hate me if i went to her parents and she doesn't even have a good relationship with them to begin with. I don't know a way which would help without ruining our friendship.
Please. suggestions??
Thanks

ok i was anorexic and bulimic for five years and i wouldnt let anyone in. it was my secret and was like i had some control over something.. id say your friend has an eating disorder.
your friend probably realises she is losing too much weight but is scared of food like most anorexic people..
it is a very serious thing though. my periods stoped meaning i might have problems concieving and i nearly died.. i was nearly put into hospital but thankfully i had some amazing friends that pulled me out!
you are the most important people you obviosely care about her a lot, dont tell her parents if you think it will upset her but if it goes on longer then you should threaten her with it!
im sure her mums caught on though.
Good luck she is very lucky to have you there!

if her mom cant see shes thinner something is wrong, but i would tell her, and ask that she not tell the girl who told her.
i think your friend needs to eat more
Do you remember Terri Schiavo?? She ended up the way she was (a vegetable) because of annorexia. It sounds like you've tried to get through to *kara* but she's not listening to you. If you are really a good friend, you will tell the school's guidance counselor about this. She'll be able to handle it from there. You should also tell her or your parents that you're worried about it too. Chances are you're right about her. She'll be mad at you, but in the end when she's won her battle, she'll love you for it. Once she gets the help she needs to get better, she'll understand that what she was doing to herself is wrong and that you were the best friend she ever could have hoped for! You will be the one who saves her life.
Good luck. I hope you do the right thing.
If your friend really does have anorexia, it is a very serious matter!
Many girls have died from this crazy disease. go online and seek a more informed list of symptoms and watch your friend to see how many of these she has. If she has several, tell her parents or a teacher afterall having a mad friend is better than having a dead one. good luck.
