when peg tube is removed, the elastic gastric tissues will close automatically..and the leak in the abdomen is not likely to happen. but after removal of the PEG and u feel that u have discomfort in ur abdominal area...board like rigidity, when u dont have a washboard abs....fever...and increased abd cramping...and excruciating pain..suspect the onset of peritonitis and hav urself checked immediately
after what? Your question is so vague. There are hundreds of causes for the development of peritonitis.
Peritoneum is the policeman of our tummy. Whenever there is inflammation, it goes and covers that organ and protects other organs from it. Appendicitis is a good example. However if the inflammation is very severe, the appendix may burst and its fecal contents can spill over peritoneum causing inflammation of the peritoneum. This is called Peritonitis. It takes minutes to an hour for the peritonitis to develop once there is spillage into peritoneum.
