Can you have just HIV or does it always have another STD with it?

Can you have just HIV/AIDS with no other STDS (like herpes or syphilis) also? I was told that everyone with HIV also has herpes. So I was wondering if anyone could verify this. Also does having a STD help contribute to getting HIV/AIDS?

i'm pretty sure you can just have HIV alone without anything else. however, there are some STD's out there that millions of people have without even knowing it such as herpes or HPV (genital warts). Both of those are viruses that stay in your system and can be transmitted without you having any symptoms.

but no....just because someone has HIV that does NOT mean they have herpes or syphillis too. HIV is a separate STD. The only way you have a chance of getting it is having sexual contact with someone who has it. Other STDs have nothing to do with it.

HIV ans STD's are entirely different from one another. Yes, you can get both from having sex with an infected person. You can have HIV, without having an STD, and you can have STD, without having HIV.

if there is breach in skin as in herpes simplex genitals, multiple small vesicle on erythematous base rupture and coalesces together so sloughing and abraded skin provide way not only HIV also other bacteria like traponema palladium to enter in skin easily. but it does not mean these STD coexist simultaneously.

You can just have HIV. And sure, certain STIs probably do contribute to being infected. If you have something like herpes, it'd be easier for the virus to enter your blood stream.

You can get infected by HIV independently from other sexually transmitted infections. However, the presence of other STI's greatly increases the chance of acquiring the virus since these STI's usually cause skin/mucosal ulcerations, thus breaching physical barriers protecting you from HIV.

I assume you're referring to genital herpes (and/or cold sore) caused by Herpes Simplex Virus II (and/or I). Not all HIV+ individuals have HSVI/II infection although it will be safe to say that a large proportion of HIV+ individuals do have it. FYI, herpes simplex infections are pretty common even in non-HIV+ population and easily transmitted simply by kissing or having unprotected oral, vaginal and/or anal sex. Once infected by HSVI/II, it persists for life and you may develop frequent herpes ulcerations. During these episodes, the chance of transmitting or acquiring HIV and other STI's is greatly increased.

So in conclusion, HIV can be acquired or transmitted independent of concurrent sexually transmitted infections, however, the presence of STI's greatly increases the chance of acquiring or transmitting HIV and other STI's.
