Friend has been in coma after angioplasty?
Question:
Answers:
It is NOT normal to be in a coma after angioplasty. Angioplasty is typically done under sedation only (no general anesthesia) and most people are up and about that day or the next.
There are many reasons that he could be in a coma - he could have had a stroke, or had severely low blood pressure during the heart attack with brain damage. It could be a result of the medications that he is on.
The fever could be from an infection or atelectasis (lungs not expanding well). The heart rate of 150 could be from the fever, or he could be having an arrhythmia (I can't tell without looking at his heart monitor!) 150 is too high and is not a good sign.
The coma may be temporary, or he may never come out of it. It all depends on the causes, his other medical problems, the condition of his heart, etc.
I wish I had more reassuring news for you, but it looks like your friend is in critical condition.
Hope all works out for the best.
It's not uncommon for him to be in a coma after a major surgery. It's a rather common complication, in fact. My guess is that he has a mild infection. He probably won't be in a coma for a full week as long as the infection is treated with prompt and attentive care.
