What's the difference between HIV and AIDS?
Question:
Answers:
There is much misconception about this.
The Human Immunodefeciency Virus, aka HIV is a virus (obviously) that infects humans, specifically recognising cd4 and cd8 receptors.
Auto Immunodeficency Syndrom, aka AIDS, is a condition when you the amount of white blood cells in your blood drops below a certain level.
HIV infections, in the latter stages, can lead to AIDS.
But other things can cause AIDS. AIDS is not only caused by HIV.
Oh, point of note - you don't die from HIV or AIDS. You actually die from a secondary infection, due to having AIDS. Feel free to contact me for more info.

HIV is the virus that causes AIDS it can live in your body many years (or just a few-depends on the person), before it erupts an takes over your body, you can get it from someone who hasn't erupted yet. HIV(human immunodefficiency virus) is a virus while AIDS is a desease. a person with HIV myt or myt not hav AIDS.
You can live with HIV for years (with very expensicve and experimental medications). AIDS is the term for the last stages of the fight when your immune system is gone and you are surely at death's door.
Aids is a form of HIV so the isn't really any difference except HIV is more of a category. they are both viral infections, and could kill you.
Human immunodeficiency virus (commonly known as HIV, and formerly known as HTLV-III and lymphadenopathy-associated virus) is a retrovirus that primarily infects vital components of the human immune system such as CD4+ T cells, macrophages and dendritic cells. It also directly and indirectly destroys CD4+ T cells. As CD4+ T cells are required for the proper functioning of the immune system, when enough CD4+ T cells have been destroyed by HIV, the immune system functions poorly, leading to the syndrome known as AIDS. HIV also directly attacks organs, such as the kidneys, the heart and the brain leading to acute renal failure, cardiomyopathy, dementia and encephalopathy. Many of the problems faced by people infected with HIV result from failure of the immune system to protect from opportunistic infections and cancers.
Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS or Aids) is a collection of symptoms and infections in humans resulting from the specific damage to the immune system caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV),[1] the late stage of which leaves individuals prone to opportunistic infections and tumors. Although treatments for AIDS and HIV exist to slow the virus's progression, there is no known cure.
