If you are wearing pants and they are not ripped. and you touch poison ivy- will you still get a rash?

Question:
Ok.. so I went hiking to day. I was wearing a pair of pants that went completely down to my ankles that were not ripped. If there was poison ivy on the hiking path and it rubbed against my leg, would I still get a poison ivy rash from it?

Answers:
if the plant comes in contact with your skin yes you will most likely get poisin ivy if not the i would get the clothing off with out touching the area where the plant had touched if you do get poison ivy stock up on the calamine or rubbing alcohol would possibly work

Other Answers:
i dont think you would not that i recall

You only get poison ivy if the oils from the leaves of the plant touch your skin. If they just touched your pant leg, it's very unlikely that you will get a rash -- but you should still wash your pants and make sure you wash yourself with soap and water because you may be able to pick it up from touching your pants. I believe the poison ivy actuall has to touch your skin for you to get a rash. Make sure you take the pants off without touching the bottom part and wash them.

Not likely. The rash and itch from poison ivy comes from an oil the plant(s) produce. The plants you came into contact with would have to have an extreme quantity of the oil. To compare, I was playing manhunt and my bare arm only had a few spots of it before I spread it by scratching.

go take a good shower bath.

yeah if you rubbed any other part of your exposed body on your pants poison ivy touched your clothes, you need to take them off without touching them, use plastic bags or something if you don't have rubber gloves. the outside of your clothes can still cause you to go break out. trust me, my daughter had poison ivy two months ago, and i had her take off her clothes in the garage cuz they were covered in stickers. i found them last week and after i picked them up to put in the washer, i got poison ivy just by touching them, so be careful. use the plastic bags to take them to the washing machine, touch nothing on the way, and wash them in hot water. then they should be fine.

The outside of the pants has the poison ivy on it. Therefore if you touch the pants, you can get it on your hands. God forbid someone sat on your lap wearing shorts, and also I suppose if you laid the pants on the bed after removing them, could have gotten it on there too..

no you will not get anything, i do it all the time
