Have her speak to a social worker - most of the hospitals have at least one on staff - they can help her apply for emergency medicaid and disability and any charities that can help defray her expenses. There are charities out there that are set up for this kind of case, but they're not always publicized for fear of fraud. In a case like this, your friend qualifies!
