I contracted genital herpes.?
Question:
Answers:
You don't NEED to medication, but it's nice to have when you are having an outbreak.
I have had genital herpes for 5 years now, and I do have medication to take but I ONLY take it when I am having an outbreak. Some people take it every day and some people only take it when they are having an outbreak or "feel" one coming on. Personally the medication makes me nauseous and it can be expensive to take every day the rest of your life, so I choose to only take it when I am having an outbreak.
And yes your doctor is right about shedding the virus. Even when a person is showing no signs or symptoms of the virus like sores or blisters they can still give the virus to someone else. According to Valtrex 70% of people with genital herpes got it from their partners when they were showing no signs or symptoms. That's how I got it!
Your doctor should have prescribed you some medication though. There are three different kinds of oral tablets that you can take. Acyclovir (Zovirax), famciclovir (Famvir), and valacyclovir (Valtrex). They all work really well. Ask your doctor for a prescription for one of these, then when you do have an outbreak you can start taking them immediately instead of then having to go to the doctor and get a prescription.
Hope this helped! Good luck to you!

Tell your doctor you want to try Valtrex!
Sucks to be you! JK.
I can't really help, thankfully, I've never had.
Good luck though
No you cant do anything just practice safe sex. if you do show symptoms dont kiss anyone and maybe use a topical lotion on your lips (zovirax) from the chemist. if you have symptoms in the other area you will sure know about it and then you visit the doctor for a prescription. try to keep well and dont stress as this may bring symptons on. dont worry.
there is no cure but dont worry there is something to reduce outbreaks go to walmart and ask the pharmacist. oh and just to let you know about 70% of the world has some form of herpes its not as bad as it sounds, you know those fever blisters that people get thats a form of herpes.
Well it is a common std.
As long as you keep yourself healthy and maintain a good diet and cut down on stress related challenges you will probably get an outbreak about once every 12 to 16 months. Lots of propaganda out there regarding medication but just get medicine when you have an outbreak. Usually lasts between 5 and 12 days. Make sure yyou tell your partner about your condition as well when the situation arises. Don't be ashamed it is very common.
Hugs to you,
Jeff

I live with the virus also..It's a hard life when you want to date and trying to explain your problem can be hard .There are some site to help u deal with and also talk to people with the same std MPWH.com. Your not alone. And as far as medication i have have chosen not to even bother For me the meds dont make the symptoms any shorter.. but that's just my personal belief..You should just return to your doctor and tell him you want meds to treat you if he doesn't agree move on to another doctor?
