Bananas have high potassium content
so it is not good if hypertension has caused your kidney to fail

Other than that it is good if taken by asymptomatic hypertensives

It is better if people on Ace inhibitors Avoid it because it can cause hyperkalemia but it is More common if the person has kidney disease it is not hat common in asymptomatic individuals
Bananas are a good source of supplemental potassium but not a life-threatening source. They also contain a small amount of fiber in them which is good for everyone. Dietary potssium is rarely a risk for average people...even those with heart disease and hypertension. Many times the doctor will use diuretics (water pills that make you pee a lot) to get your pressure down. These can deplete the bodies supply of potassium so adding that banana can certainly help. Much better than those big, dry, nasty potassium pills we give at the hospital. We have to break those suckers up for folks! Hope this helps. Jeff the nurse in Nashville (Cardiac ICU) BTW- people don't get kidney disease from too much potassium. People get kidney disease and their body can't effectively deal with potassium. The levels go up then.
