Does anyone have an ideas to help night sweats and hot flashes. My sister has cancer and went into menoplause

She could try hormone replacement therapy, but only if her cancer doc and gynecologist agree to the regimen. They need to agree, because sometimes cancers are encouraged by such treatment. According to traditional Chinese medicine, she needs to cool her body; think of it that her body is "overheating" without being able to regulate (i.e., female hormones) itself. I would suggest eating soy-based products to help her body with the components she is missing. This should help alleviate her symptoms and she will be getting high protein in her body to boot..
I would be careful and consult with the doc regarding any herbal remedies to mitigate her menopausal symptoms, because herbs in their raw form aren't necessarily beneficial (due to bacteria, mold, fungus, etc.) and can impact her during a time of low immunity. Herbs can also interfere with her medication regimen currently and work against her. Realize that the most important thing right now is to stop the cancer and she may need to just "ride through" the side effects.
Tell her to keep "cool" and stay strong.!

hormone replacement treatment
I had endometrial cancer last year at age 31. I am in surgical menopause, too. I cannot take the hormones either because of the cancer recurrence risk. Fans, short sleeve shirts or little clothing, heat off.these are things I do before the hot flashes and night sweats. It helps some, but the doctor said it will be 3 years before menopause is over.
I was put in a surgical menapouse and I too have hot flushes during the day or seldom at night.
First of all I started a journal to find out the pattern of my hot flushes: what I found out is that if I ate a crappy diet with lots of junk in it, my hot flushes were so immense I was sweating like a "piggy". When I changed to no sugar , no white flower and no junk food diet.lots of raw vegetables and fruits, flax oil, homemade white cottage cheese, etc (Johanna Budwig diet)..I noticed TREMENDOUS difference: my hot fluses were not so strong anymore and lasted only 30-40 seconds with a little sweating.NO YOU DON"T WANT to use HRT-either.
Buy yourself a good thermometer(not a digital one-the one ladies use for family planning) and get the temperature anytime you get the hot flush and write it down. Write to me at:sointula@cablerocket.com WHY should you do that. If you serious about that.
Take care all.Misia M..
What meds is she on? Did she go into menopause from the treatment like chemo?
I'm on Lupron therapy that puts me into menopause and I tell you those flashes are something else. What I do is dress cool at night, just a night shirt short sleeve and then pile on blankets so if you get a flash you can toss blankets off. I have a battery fan by the bed to run to cool my face too and ice water by the night stand too. Cool cloths help.
The dr may not want her on hormonal therapy because of the cancer and I would be very wary of the natural things like black cohosh they are finding in studies now that they can hamper medications and are not that great. I believe in all natural so I just sweat it out. Cool cloths on the forehead, back of neck, and feet help alot for me. I also sip ice water, have my bedside fan and dress cool at night. I found that mineral ice or menthol rubs that cool pain help too if you rub them on during a flash.
