how do we deal with our visiting granddaughter's ringworm so that we won't get it too?

Question:
She was here several days before it showed up; we put salve on it but are concerned about how contagious it may be.

Answers:
While ringworm which is a fungus is contagious it isn't so highly so that you should be paranoid about it. I don't know what "salve" you put on it but since it is a fungus you obviously should be using an antifungal for this purpose and an over the counter product should work. It is very unlikely a doctor would prescribe pills for a child. Meantime just be sure to wash towels an bedding often and keep hers separate.

Other Answers:
It's contagious via direct contact, don't touch the infected area and you will be OK. Wash the sheets and bedding that she used in HOT water. Ringworm is a fungal infection like athletes foot so take normal precautions and you will be OK
