Anyone ever had problems with esophagus & not been able to drink or eat?

Question:
My dad hasn't been able to hold food & liquids down long before they try to come back up. It has been like that for 2-3 days and now all of a sudden this morning he can eat a soft scrambled egg & drink a couple of swallows of milk. Why the change? Does he need to have esophagus stretched (dilated)? Does this hurt??

Answers:
My Daddy had this condition. He would eat a tiny bite of food and have to run to the bathroom, choking all the way. Our family has a history of Acid Reflux Disease. We also have Esophagus Cancer in our family as well. Acid Reflux can set you up for this cancer. My Daddy did indeed have to get a procedure where they stuck a carrot shaped thing down his throat, to stretch it so he could swallow. The relief didn't last him long though, about 6 months. I have Acid Reflux and I am not looking forward to the days to come. My granny also died of Esophagus Cancer. Please talk your Daddy into having the Doctor take a look! Very important.

my grandma had this problem her whole life. she ended up having to have surgery for this and it definitely helped for awhile, but she did have to have a second one a few years later. maybe your dad's just sick though.

He needs to go have a checkup by a doctor. They will put a camera down his throat and make sure there is nothing obstructing the passageway. My father-in-law died of esophagal cancer so I would urge you to make an appointment right away. It could be something else entirely but always good to make sure since the symptoms were similiar to your dads. good luck.
