can lasik cure presbyopia?

Question:

Answers:
Well, I am suprised this is not more reported on. But, I will do my best to answer your question.
First, Presbyopia, is the stage in aging, usually right around fourty, not always, when your arms need to be longer. You suddenly cannot see things up close, when, in the past, you were just fine. It is a simple symptom of aging. This is when you start thinking about that little rounder of half glasses you have seen but NEVER considered using at your local drug store. This is Not to be confused with HYPEROPIA, wich is when you see well AT a distance, but up close, you struggle. (This would be a "+" on your prescription)
So, as for the answer to your question, Can Lasik "CURE" Presbyopia, Yes, to a degree and with a slight modification, often, you have only one eye corrected with Lasik, that way, you have "MONO-VISION" which is your strongest eye is now just for distance and your weaker eye is for close up. Some people don't adapt well to this method, but others love it. It can cause a slight loss of depth perception and also some loss balance with Mono-Vision correction. Hope this helps.

Other Answers:
There is no surgery that can directly "cure" presbyopia, the underlying reason for needing reading glasses. It often ends up compromising your distance vision so you may need glasses to drive if you get monovision surgically.

It may be possible that monovision with contacts, laser refractive surgery, or Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) can provide a reduced need for reading glasses. "LASIK has no absolutely no effect on your eye's focusing muscles or on the crystalline lens, so it does not correct ordinary presbyopia."
