Question:

Answers:
Unfortunately, the herpes virus lives in the skin at all times. The chances of contracting the virus increases if sores are present, but there is still a chance when there are no sores.

Well it depends on what kind of herpes you are talking about.

You can get herpes simplex one (cold sores) by simply just kissing someone who has the sores on their lips or mouth. You can also get it by sharing drinks or chap stick with someone who has it.

You can get herpes simplex two (genital herpes) by rubbing or touching the sores and by having sex with a person who has the virus. Even if you don't have sex with the person, but rub genital areas together or something, you could possibly get the virus. The person doesn't even have to have visible blisters. They can be "shedding" the virus, which can cause you to get it.

You can also be born with herpes. It is usually transmitted to the baby through the birth canal when the mothers is giving birth and is currently having an outbreak. A baby can be born without it though, even if the mother has the virus. But a lot of women usually choose to have a C-section delivery just in case.
