Lantus side effects?

Question:
My husband recently started taking Lantus and after he eats he gets queasy and a bit of a headache. Is this common? Thanks.

Answers:
I am also on Lantus(just at bedtime though-- I take Humalog for meals), when I first started it, I did get headaches occasionally, but not queasy.

I do find that Lantus burns when you inject it , that one injection is more painful then the other 3 I take.

I would talk to your pharmacist about your husband's side effects(I know that most people say talk to your doctor-- but trust me, the pharmacist will know more) and see if you can try and come up with a reasonable explanation for his symptoms.

The other thing to do is check his blood sugar-- he may be a little hypoglycemic(headache and nausea are common signs), maybe the dose is a little too high, or he is injecting it too early before he eats.

I wish you and your husband luck.

You might want to check his blood sugar when he feels like that just to see how the body is handling the Lantus. There can be side effects from different insulins and it's usually because of the carrier that is used to make the insulin injectable. When I first started on insulin, I was allergic to it and still have to take Benadryl if I need to take a larger dose than normal. You should let your doc know if this continues to be a problem.

Many Blessings,
