What is The Truth about Hepatitis C??

Question:
You know those ads with that guy with the beat up face? and the ad says " if you could see the damage to your liver on your face you would do something about it"? What is the deal with that? This has to do with Latent Hepatitis C residing in your liver; the drug companies want to get you to start taking interferon for a year and pay them tons of money to do this to get rid of your latent Hep C; I had a friend who was feeling fine, went to the doctor and the doctor said " you have to start taking interferon" so he did for a year, the drug made him feel like crap, and he never did get rid of the Latent Hep C; I think it is a pharmaceutical company scam. Thanks, Dal

Answers:
This is actually a research project i am working on, so bear with me.

interferons are proteins that the body uses to fight all sorts of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and tumors. HCV proteins have a way of inducing inflammatory agents, which can lead to extensive tumor growth. these inflammatory agents also deregulate interferon production, thus the logical response to give interferons to make up the deficiency. however, these are not the body's natural interferons, which is possibly why your friend felt crappy, and the nature of HCV allows it to avoid the interferons well, which we've also witnessed in vitro. Add alcoholism into the picture and the virulence is exponential. But interferons are the best treatment available, although you can look into some foreign herbals, i'm not sure of their market names, but the active ingredients include- silimerin, SST, MMKT

the truth about latent HCV in your liver? 85% of cases result in liver cancer.

its bad
The truth is that it is a serious disease.
Hep C..is the most dangerous usually people with HIV have Hep.his body is not used to the medicine
I just started college and in in a health care class(going to do ultra sounds)anyways Hep. C is not curable. You can take anti viral medications to help prolong the symptoms but nothing will cure it. Also you can get liver transplants but even with that youll still have it. I havent seen that commercial but i do know for sure hep c will never go away no matter what you take or do.Hope i helped
Actually, the point of the HepC ad is to encourage people who are at risk, to take the vaccine, not to get sick people to get treatment. HepC is a degenerative disease without any cure; if your friend thought the Interferon was going to cure him, he's saddly mistaken. There is no cure, but it is manageable for a period of time.
True there are adverse reactions to the drug and it is not a complete cure. If enough liver damage can be prevented for the patient to continue living, it is worth it. Stop being so skeptical of pharmaceutical companies. They do a fine job.
What is the scope of the hepatitis C problem?
The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is one of the most significant health problems affecting the liver. More than 4 million Americans (1.3% of the U.S. population) and 170 million individuals in the world (3% worldwide) are infected with hepatitis C virus. The prevalence (number of cases in a population at a specific time) of hepatitis C virus infections varies in different parts of the world. For example, the prevalence of hepatitis C virus in Scandinavia is less than 0.5% of the population, whereas the prevalence in Egypt is over 20%. In the U.S. and Western Europe, the complications of hepatitis C virus chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis are the most common reasons for liver transplantation.
everyone thinks that there truth is the only truth including the doctors as far as i know there is no cure for hep c but there are ways to keep up your health your liver i suggest homeopathic meds they did wonders for my cancer and zango is another i hurd great things about
hepatitis C can lead to permanent liver damage as well as cirrhosis, liver cancer, and liver failure.
your liver is important you can't live without it
there are a ton of websites on the net with great info on this topic
Chronic hepatitis C can lead to liver failure and cancer. In other words, lot of troubles and death.

Usually, we say that it causes :
- symptoms of hepatitis after 10 years
- cirrhosis after 20 years
- cancer after 30 years

A treatment with interferon with ribavarin can be tried, but is expansive, have multiple side effects. 50% respond but 70% will relapse.

But if I would have hepatitis C, I would try it.
