What's the name for a doctor who specializes in diabetes?

Question:
Is it just a general practitioner, or is there a specific name for it? A diabete-ist? If someone can help me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Answers:
Endocrinologist - because the pancreas is a part of our endocrine system.

I am an endocrinologist!
You need a endocrinologist the pancreas is part of the endocrine system. You also need a diabetes educator and dietitian. A general practitioner can treat diabetes but they have no specialty in the disease and are not on top of the latest medical advances in diabetes. Would you go to a GP for your heart or the specialist?
endocrinologist
Endocrinologists treat diabetes, but they also deal with thyroid and other hormone things. Any doctor (IM, Peds. FP) could "specialize" in diabetes. Some endocrinologists focus on thyroid more than diabetes. You can call around to doctors in your area and ask about their diabetes experience and number of diabetics they see to get a general idea.
Note: I plan to do combined IM-Peds as a general practice, but focus on diabetes
They are called Endocrinologists. Although many physicians who specialize in Internal Medicine are also quite good with treating diabetes.
