Tonsils. Has anyone ever had them removed?

Question:
I have a minor to moderate case of tonsillitis. This is the first time I've been diagnosed with it, however over the last several years they have been bothering me. Sore throats, etc.and also I have those gross things that get stuck in them that you cough up sometimes. What will it take to get a doctor to remove them? I am on atibiotics now for the next two weeks. Anyone have any feedback? It's just so horrible, and they even give me a bad taste in the back of my throat!

Answers:
if u r that sick and they r frequently hurting u and causing u severe health problems, u should remove them, cause they may give u rheumatoid fever and badly affects ur heart, besides it depends on ur age the younger u r the better and less side effects.
In the old days, they removed them without really thinking about it. Now days they've learned that in most cases it is not necessary. Unless you become VERY ILL frequently - there is NO REASON to have them removed. Hang on to them!
The recovery from the surgery is painful. But if the alternative is living with chronic strep throats, it might be worth it.
My little boy had them removed when he was 5...It was definitley the worst thing he's been through in his little life.
Had mine removed as an adult. It was very painful in the recovery, but I don't regret it. I went from having 3-4 strep infections a year to zero. It was definetly worth it. If you choose to do it, try to get fentanyl pops for the pain.
