What meds are you taking for your outbreaks? I never did well with acyclovier but love valtrex. Try taking 1000mg's of lysine 3 times daily (3000 total) that's the normal dose to supress herpes. I know it's stressful especially if it's your first outbreak but stress can trigger outbreaks aswell. Try to relax and get enough sleep. Try exercising (preferably cardio) and stay away from long exposure to the sun. If it's your first outbreak it's the worst it'll ever so once this is over it most likely won't ever be as bad as it is again. Wanna talk herpes? Feel free to email or IM me.
You need to see your doc for antiviral meds and also get some generic tagamet at the store and take that too.,
Acyclovir (Zovirax) is the original herpes drug, Valacyclovir (Valtrex) and Famciclovir (Famvir) are newer versions that also help prevent spreading to a partner when taken continuously. Tagamet is an antacid drug usually prescribed for stomach ulcer treatment. Famvir is reported to be better at shortening an outbreak than the others, but I have no direct experience.
Some people report good results with topical treatment of tea tree oil which can be found in health/natural food stores in soaps, etc.
Keeping the outbreak area as clean and dry as possible help also - so looser clothing to hep air circulate (and avoid surface irritation) is a plus.
Stress and food (esp. chocolate and nuts) are considered triggers and many people have to eliminate them from their diets.
Getting plenty of rest and regular exercise help reduce the severity and duration of outbreaks, as well as lower their recurrence, as both boost the immune system in general. Both also help with your stress level, as does meditation, and there are medications as well.
Good luck, I know how horrible it can be - HSV+ for nearly 20 years.
