It can be. Frequent and/or prolonged BV can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID causes scar tissue to form in your uterus and Fallopian tubes, which can make you prone to ectopic pregnancy, or permanently infertile.
If you are using vaginal douche, stop immediately. They will only aggravate your infections. If you are prone to BV, have you considered using a probiotic like live, active yogurt in addition to your medications?

I would think so. If you currently have one get treated with metronidazole for 7 days then go the the health store and purchase some probiotics such as kefir or yogurt. I recommend taking one capsule a day of lactobacillus also to balance the flora in the vagina. This method along with staying away from lots of sugar, douches, scented tampons or pads should prevent a reoccurance. Good Luck!
Yogurt is not strong enough for the Probiotics. You need to go to the health food store and get Probiotics in capsule form. The higher number of active cultures the better. The best ones are kept in the refrigerator section. Also, at the drugstore, in the feminine products, there is a product called RePHresh that is a gel you insert. It helps regulate your PH. You can use the RePHresh during the day. It does not leak or run and you don't need to use panty liners with it. The Probiotics replace the good bacteria that the antiobiotics have killed. Believe me, this stuff works! I was having Bacterial Vaginosis continually after I had my hysterectomy in 1994 until I started using these two products!
