Have a Question about my doctor?

Question:
Hi I have a gastroenterologist that I have been seeing for over 5 yeras. I am wondering can he do General Surgery? The reason I ask this is because I think I may have Appendicitis. Can my gastroenterologist do the surgery if I need it or do I have to have a General surgeon do it? Is there a law what type of doctor has to do this? Thanks and have a great day.
