How contagious is mono?

Question:
Is it spread just through saliva? I was on a youth group trip with a girl this past week who was recently diagnosed with mono. We talked a lot face to face and at one point held hands to pray. I was constantly reassured that it is only spread through saliva, but I wanted to make sure that the scratchy throat I woke up with is due only to exhaustion and not to something more serious.

Thank you!

HI THERE, YES IT IS ONLY TRANSMITTED THROUGH SALIVA BUT, IF SHE HAD NOT WASHED HER HANDS OR SHE DRANK OUT OF YOUR WATER GLASS, AND STUFF, MY SON GOT MONO FROM SCHOOL, HE WAS IN GRADE THREE, HE WAS REALLY REALLY SICK, MONO CAN TAKE A VERY LONG TIME TO GO AWAY AS IT IS A VIRUS NOT A BACTERIA. MY KIDS BOTH KNOW NOT TO DRINK OUT OF ANYONES DRINKS AND STUFF SO REALLYT THINK I HAVE NOOOOOO IDEA HO W MY SON GOT MONO AT SCHOOL, BECAUSE HE WASN;T KISSING ANYONE OR DRAGGIN OF OF CIGARETTES OR ANYTHING, AND I DON;T LET THEM DRINK OUT OF THOSE WATER FOUNTAINS SO , I KNOW THAT ITIS HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS AND WHEN HE GOT IT I WORKED OVERTIME TO MAKE SURE NONE OF THE OTHER PEOPLE IN OUR FAMILY ESPECIALLY HIS LITTLE BROTHER GOT IT, SO REALLY IT HAS A TWO WEEK INCUBATION PERIOD AND YOU SHOULD GO TO THE DOCTOR AND GET A BLOOD TEST, THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO IF YOU HAVE IT BUT REST, BUT IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU KNOW. yOU SHOULD DO THIS IT IS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. TAKE CARE HOPE YOU DON;T HAVE IT.

BABY
You are correct about saliva. You either get it by kissing, or drinking out of the same glass, or of course eating.
I dont know this for a fact, but you and she held hands when praying; if she touched her mouth before she held hands with you, and then you touched your mouth, I get it would be possible to spread it that way, but I imagine it would be unlikely.
Also if you two kissed, or she kissed a boy and you kissed the same boy, it is possible to spread it that way.
I think you are having a psychosamtic reaction. She has got it now you think you have got it.
You should be okay, mono is only spread through saliva (kissing, sharing drinks). The scratchy throat you woke up with is probably just due to fatigue. If you start to feel absolutely terrible (horrible sore throat, fever, nausea, EXTREME fatigue, experience a rash on your body) then head to your doctor, until then I think you're fine... no direct contact with her saliva, should mean no mono for you.

Hope this helps. :-)
I got it just from being in a room with someone that had it. It is HIGHLY contagious. If she didn't wash her hands before you held hands it is possible for you to have it. If she sneezed around you it is possible you have it. If she coughed around you it is possible you have it.
