Trets, twitching, habits??

My son has been diagnosed with Tourrettes Syndrome since he was in 1st grade...he is about to be in the 6th grade. We have him on a low dose of Clonidine that pretty much suppresses his tics. His tics vary from coughing, shaking jis hands, nodding his head, sniffing his nose. He can't help them, that is for sure. And he really is not aware he is doing them when he does one. Every summer we take him of the meds to see if he has"outgrown" them, if that is even a possibility. Show your parents this...I am assuming you are a kid...and definatley talk to your doctor. We have to go see a child psychiatrist twice a year to keep our meds up. Not for counseling. Our son has no behavioral or social problems, or academic problems. Praise the Lord. Hope this helps.
turrets syndrome
yeah tourettes syndrome. you should go too the doc...and perhaps a treatment option that can fit you personally
Turrets is a syndrome that effects the central nervous system, causing the patient to suffer from rapid body movements and also the spontaneous shouting of random words. it is most commonly found in the elderly or veteran who have "shell shock", a syndrome caused by the loud BOOM of the artillery cannon of WW2.
So, unless your old or a vet, I doubt you have turrets.
Its probably just a common twitch, a normal thing for a human body to develop, and to dump.
So you could stop tomorrow or... never.
Hope Ive helped,
Trent
Trent, you are completely off. Tourrets can happen to anyone. My cousin had early signs as a child, and the signs grew as he got older. It's very common. It's said that there is at least one child in every school district that has it. Some doctors believe that kids who are always sick may develop it, especially those who have had cases of strep throat. Some of it's twitching, some of its verbal. There are different "tics" - simple and complex. My cousin started out humming and he had the sniffles, which everyone thought were allergies for so long. Now he mostly knocks his knees together and "elbows." He doesn't say anything outside of the humming. A lot of people think people with tourette's cus and say random things and that's it. Yes, they can, but not always. Especially the cussing..that's what's often seen in movies, and it bothers me that's what they choose to portray someone with tourettes because that's not it. Too many people get the wrong idea. Also, someone with tourette's is more symptomatic during childhood and puberty. The symptoms are likely to lessen as you go into adulthood, but not always.
I'm interested in knowing more about your "habits" that you have. There are so many different possibilities, but I would talk to your doctor - who should recommend a good neurologist. You could have a different neurological disorder, or it could just be a fluke.

Good luck with finding an answer! :)
*EDIT - I also wanted to add that Obessive Complusive Disorder (OCD) is very common with someone who has Tourette's. As is depression. The OCD can contribute to some of the weird habits you may be having.
