What are the chances of getting an std through unprotected oral sex?

Question:

Answers:
Obviously, the chances of getting affected through an unprotected oral sex is pretty high. But it also depends on various factors like the extent of contact, period of contact, conditions during contact and several others.
The main point in an oral sex is that if either one of the partners is affected, the n the other has a fair chance of getting affected, but the case varies for different diseases as stds generally refer to all sexually transmitted diseases; like AIDS, gonorrhea, syphilis etc.. All of these have different mode of transmission and different risk factors. As in the case of AIDS, the virus cannot survive outside the body of the host and therefore it has to be transmitted by direct contact of either sexual secretions or blood; the former being the common in unprotected sex.
But why take a chance, unprotected sex, as the name suggests, is not protected, and hence, not safe. Several protective measures are available in the market, as you may know, condoms, diaphragms, etc. Specially in the case of oral sex, condoms can prevent the transmission of various stds to a great extent.

Possible. Your "chance," as in a concrete figure, is not possible to measure.
The two easiest and most likely STDs to get through unprotected oral sex (with a male or a female) is Herpes and HPV. Both pass through skin contact, not fluid transfers. Herpes can be given by anyone who goes down on someone while their "cold sore" is active - which may or may not involve in a visible cold sore. HPV easily transfers with just foreplay, is very common, and can cause cancer or genital warts.
You can avoid both and other STDs by getting tested regularly, not sleeping around on your partner (and visa versa) and practicing safer sex through condoms, dental damns, and gloves.
