Lexapro: sleepiness and nausea...?

Question:
OMG, I've been on Lexapro for 4 days now, and the only side effects I have that I can tell is being very sleepy (almost falling asleep sitting up) and BAD nausea about 6-8 hrs after I take it and it lasts for about 3 hours. Has anyone else had this problem?? does it go away?

Answers:
I've been on Lexapro for about six months now. At first, I was VERY sleepy; it lasted for about 1 1/2 weeks. I didn't experience any nausea though. I would contact your doctor, because if you are that nauseated, you might not even be keeping it in your system. Lexapro, like most antidepressants, takes about 3-6 weeks before it gets settled in your system and you begin to notice its effect on your life. My doctor calls it a fuse extender, which means that while it won't alleviate all of your depression and anxiety, it will make life more bearable and things will bother you less. I no longer sweat the small stuff in life, and I really love the positive impact it has had on my life.

However, psychiatric drugs are different in the respect that what works for one person might not work for another, because even if we have the same problems our brain chemistry is different, so we all respond to these drugs differently. That is why it is so important that you communicate all of your concerns and symptoms to your doctor. He or she may need to adjust your dosage or put you on another drug that won't adversely affect you in this way.
That is a common side affect due to the medications effects on your body chemistry and nervous system. You may want to try taking a supplement called SAM-e (s-Adenosyl methionine) It is used a lot in Europe and has had several clinical studies done that show it is very effective with mood disorders. Can be picked up at drug stores like wlagreens, Sams club.
Yes!!! I took Lexapro 2 years ago for over a year. I had the same symptoms as you , hang in there it can take as long as 2 weeks for your system to get used to this medicine. Once the two weeks were up I did fine but be forewarned it can for some add weight gain I gained 20 lbs. in the year I took it that's why I went off it .
I was on it for about 30 days and the sleepiness never went away. I was sleeping probably 16 hours a day, and when I was awake, I didn't want to do anything. My doc gave me Provigil to try and increase my energy, but I didn't like it. So I switched to Zoloft.
Yes, try taking it in the late afternoon of night time. If you like lexapro after 6 weeks and are still very tired, ask your doctor to add 150-300mg of Wellbutrin to your lexapro. It will help with the fatigue.
I've been taking Lexapro for 2 years and it has had no ill side effects on me, but rather has helped my anxiety and depression.
