Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is an acute infectious disease, which causes fever, followed by the development of vesicles (blisters) - chiefly in the mouth and on the feet. The disease is caused by a virus of which there are at least three 'types', each producing the same symptoms, and distinguishable only in the laboratory.
It is probably more infectious than any other disease affecting man or animals and spreads rapidly if uncontrolled.
It is spread by close contact or wind borne, only cloven hooved animals can get it, cows/pigs/sheep/goats etc, with the exception of rats and also hedgehogs I believe, man very rarely, the last known case in a human was back in the 60's.
Some symptoms of foot and mouth are ulcers in the mouth, fever, soar hoofs, generally losing appetite and fatigue. Hope this helps.

foot and mouth effects all hoofed animals,its like blisters and it can get into the food chain,last Time it was in the U.K lots of farmers lost there herds,it took a long time to recover,Ive seen its back again in the south of England and this time the roads near to are closed helping to stop the flow
