I have fibromyalgia...?
Question:

I was diagnosed with fibro in 2004 but I had the symptoms from as early back as 1995. This is a terrible condition and the pain is unlike anything I have ever experienced. I am told that it will not progress, but, that is bull. I can no longer work because of the debilitating pain. People that tell you it is all in your head have never been in pain of any kind. When you hurt it is all over your body. This is the way it was explained to me: It is like having on a sock that has bunched up around your toes. If you are busy, you usually forget about it and don't feel it. When a person with fibro feels this uncomfortable sensation, it is magnified through the entire body 10 fold. Unlike most people, our brains do not shut off the pain signal. It stays open 24/7. I don't sleep, I stay sick, I can't participate in normal activities anymore and the depression is terrible. Fibro and other disorders aggravate each other, also.
Sorry to hear it, Fibro can be a seriously debilitating condition. Often times people don't understand it so their first thought is that you're lazy. If people start saying stuff like that I would tell them to look up the condition and until they know what they're talking about you would appreciate it if they would STFU. I have Psoriasis, which people don't really seem to understand either and that's been pretty effective as a way to get ignorant people to shut up. My mom's got Fibro, I know it can be tough, hang in there. People are stupid there isn't anything you can do to change that.

You seem to be describing negative remarks from the people in your home, i.e., children, spouse, relatives.
I have found that many people who make these remarks simply don't understand fibromyalgia and need to be educated. They cannot "see" your symptoms; your medical tests may be normal; your symptoms tend to come and go; the condition will never disappear completely. So they become skeptical, doubtful and frustrated.
Have you tried to educate those around you about fibromyalgia? The Mayo Clinic has an excellent article at http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/fibromy...
You may also be able to request literature and information from fibromyalgia support groups to share with those around you. Try http://www.fmaware.org/site/pageserver,... http://www.fmnetnews.com., and http://www.fibromyalgia.md/support.php.

My fibromyalgia flares up several times a month, but I have learned to control it by avoiding artificial sweeteners (really!), getting adequate exercise (sometimes you just have to exercise through the pain), avoiding excessive stress, eating healthy, and insisting on adequate sleep.
Good luck to you!
