Can people be allergic to aspen wood/pet shavings?

Question:
I recently got a chinchilla and have it bedded with aspen and was feeding it hay along with its pellets. I thought I was allergic to the hay so I stopped feeding it that for a while but my allergies are still acting up even after having stopped the hay, So I'm assuming it's the aspen but I'm not sure. I'm also 99% sure it isn't the chinchilla either, considering how rare it would be to have allergic reaction to it.

Answers:
Actually MANY people are allergic to chinchillas. I'm not sure why you felt it would be rare. Yes it can be the shavings are well. You don't mention what kind of reaction you're having or if it is just when you're touching the chinchilla or cleaning the cage or what.

Try putting some of the shavings in a dish in another room from the chinchilla and see if it makes you react.

It's likely the chinchilla.
Your best bet is probably to go see your doctor about it who can give you a alergy test and you can then pin point exactly what it is.
Wow this may be weird but I got two chinchillas about a year or so ago and I use aspen for the bedding too and have had the same symptoms so if you find out what's wrong post it please!!!
