Chemical peels for scars / pigmentation?

I am of asian origin and have dark marks scattered over my face from spots. I also have a chemical type burn around my mouth where a cold sore cream did something weird to my skin. I have had facial microdermabrasions which have faded the scars and have heard that chemical peels make a drastic difference. Has anyone done this? what have your results been like? please tell me your stories. If i do do it, it will be by a special approved dermatologist that i know is well known and approved so no need to worry about this....plus the cost isnt too excessive.

P.s. how long after the treatment did your face look funny or irritated? hours?....days?.....could it be covered with makeup?
