If you have an STD would it be shown in your CBC?

Question:
I have no signs of an STD but am paranoid for some reason..I had some blood work done recently and the doctor said my CBC was normal...if i was infected with an STD would it show up in a CBC?

Answers:
If you are concerned about an STD, you need to talk to your doctor about more specific testing. A CBC may show a low or high WBC count, as some other posters have mentioned, but that is not sufficient to rule out all STDs.

Remember, too, that there is a wide range of 'normal' for blood counts and that especially with diseases that take a long time to become acute, bloodwork may not show anything unusual for a long time.

If you have had unprotected sex and you have not had a complete workup for STDs, please see your doctor right away. Paranoia can be healthy sometimes. *g*
it depends which STD... HIV can produce a low lymphocyte count. A disseminated form of gonorrhea can produce elevation of WBC and neutrophils...A localized form of STD typically will not produced abnormality in blood count
yes it would show. This same exact thing happened to me last year. I had blood work done and I was worried about stds. If you have hiv you would see something wrong and if there was a std like gonoreah or something your doctor would know that there was in infection. They can tell. low white blood count means something just like high white blood count means something. Look into it. Good luck.
